L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty Department of Social Impact’s Skin Health Microgrant Terms and Conditions
The L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty’s Department of Social Impact’s Skin Health Microgrant (the “Program”) begins at 12:00 AM Eastern Time (“ET”) on June 2, 2025; and ends at 11:59 PM ET on June 30, 2025 (“Program Period”). The purpose of the Grant is to cover direct expenses related to Applicant’s participation in a skin health project. Eligible costs may include project materials, travel, lodging, and if applicable a student stipend.
By participating, Applicant (“Applicant”) agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions and the decisions of the judges and/or Sponsor, which are binding and final on all matters relating to this Program. Program is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws. For the purposes of this Program, the Sponsor’s computer will be the official timekeeper for all matters relating to this Program.
ELIGIBILITY: Program is open to Applicants who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States (excluding Puerto Rico) and the District of Columbia, 21 years of age or older at time of Application. Applicant must be a medical student who meets the following criteria:
- Currently pursuing an MD or DO degree at an accredited US medical or osteopathic school.
- Demonstrated interest in dermatology.
- Must be in good academic standing
- Must have a mentor who will oversee the project.
Employees of L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty’s a Division of L’Oreal USA, S/D Inc. (“Sponsor”), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (“Administrator”) and their subsidiaries, affiliates, promotion and advertising agencies, and members of their immediate family (spouse and parent, children and siblings and their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) and persons living in the same household, whether or not related, of such employees, are not eligible to apply. Void where prohibited by law.
HOW TO APPLY: On or about June 2, 2025, go to https://lorealdermatologicalbeauty.us/skinhealthmicrogrant and complete the Grant Application. Applicants must provide a proposal (see below for details) and submit all requested documents (see below for details) (collectively “Grant Application”). All Grant Applications must be received by 11:59 PM ET on June 30, 2025, to be eligible. Submission of erroneous or incomplete information will void the submission.
GRANT PROPOSAL DETAILS:
- Grant Proposal must be 1 to 3 pages and include problem statement; solution (including goals and objectives); budget and budget narrative; project timeline; and success and evaluation metrics.
- Target populations (at least one required): racial and ethnic minorities; communities of low socioeconomic status; refugee and immigrant communities; rural populations; LGBTQIA+ communities; women.
- The Proposal must focus on improving access to at least one of the following areas: advancing provider education and cultural humility; advancing health literacy; inclusive research, diagnostics, and/or care; healthcare systems innovation.
Additional requirements:
- Applicant must provide proof of medical school enrollment (such as official enrollment letters, tuition invoices or receipts, a timetable or course schedule, or an electronic document like an email or screenshot of the above) and a letter of recommendation from mentor, including a statement confirming a) acceptance to serve as your mentor and b) knowledge of the proposed project
- Awardees must submit a brief report (1-3 pages) within 30 days of project completion. Projects must be complete within one year of award date.
- If Applicant’s project requires Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, please consult your IRB and include proof of approval with your submission.
Grant request must be the original work of the Applicant and must not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity. If the Application contains any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant, and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, the entrant is responsible for obtaining, prior to submission of the Application, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the use and exhibition of the Application by Sponsor in the manner set forth in these Terms and Conditions, including, without limitation, name and likeness permissions from any person who appears in or is identifiable in the Application. Sponsor reserves the right to request proof of these permissions in a form acceptable to Sponsor from any entrant at any time. Failure to provide such proof may, if requested, render Application null and void. By submitting an Application, entrant warrants and represents that she and any persons appearing or who are identifiable in the Application consent to the Application and use of the Application in the Program and to its use as otherwise set forth herein.
By submitting an Application, entrant acknowledges and agrees that Sponsor may obtain many applications in connection with this Program and/or other Programs staged and/or promoted by the Sponsor, and that such applications may be similar or identical in theme, idea, format or other respects to other applications submitted in connection with this Program and/or other Programs sponsored by the Sponsor or submitted for other reasons or other materials developed by the Sponsor. Applicant waives any and all claims Applicant may have had, may have, and/or may have in the future, that any Application and/or other works accepted, reviewed and/or used by the Applicant may be similar to her Application, or that any compensation is due to entrant in connection with such Application or other works used by Sponsor.
GRANT DETERMINATION AND AWARD:
Grantees will be determined by the following process. Applications will be reviewed in two stages. The American Association for the Advancement of Science staff will conduct a first reviw to ensure that all applicants meet the criteria. Then, on or about July 24, 2025 a panel of board certified dermatologists who serve as l’Oréal Dermatological Beauty’s Social Impact Advisory board will provide the final review and select the award recipients based on the following criteria:
- Project impacts a community who faces systemic barreirs.
- Project addresses at least one focus area.
- Project is clearly written, organized and addresses a defined problem.
- Proposed methodology/design is appropriate for the project.
- Idea is feasible and within the stated timeline.
- The proposed idea is innovative.
- Recommendation letter offers a strong endorsement of candidate.
- Candidate demonstrates the ability to successfully complete projects per track record in CV.
- The proposed idea will make an impact and improve skin health.
The four (4) Applicants with the highest scores will each receive a $2,500 grant (“Grant”).
GRANT PAYMENT: Grants will be administered by the The American Association for the Advancement of Science. Grant shall be paid by Sponsor directly to medical school via ACH wire transfer to an account at a US financial institution designated provided by Grantee in writing, subject to Grantee’s compliance with Sponsor’s standard payment processing procedures. Winner is responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes, if any, as well as any other costs and expenses associated with grant acceptance and use not specified herein as being provided.
NOTIFICATION: Potential Grantees will be notified by email or phone on or about August 4, 2025, using the contact information provided on the application form. The potential Grantees may be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Release and where not prohibited a Publicity Release which must be received by Sponsor within seven (7) days of the date notice or attempted notice is sent, in order to claim her grant. If a potential Grantee cannot be contacted, fails to execute and return the Affidavit of Eligibility and Release and Publicity Release or provide any other requested information within the required time period (as applicable), does not comply with these Terms and Conditions, or notification is returned as undeliverable, potential Grantee forfeits the grant. If a potential Grantee is disqualified for any reason, the applicable grant may be awarded to a runner-up, if any, in Sponsor’s sole discretion. Acceptance of any prize shall constitute and signify each Grantee’s agreement and consent that Sponsor and its designees may use the Grantees’ name, city, state or province, territory, likeness, Application and/or prize information in connection with the Program for promotional, advertising or other purposes, worldwide, in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, including the Internet, without limitation and without further payment, notification, permission or other consideration, except where prohibited by law.
OWNERSHIP OF APPLICATIONS: Acceptance of grant constitutes Applicant’s consent to give Sponsor, and its affiliates, a royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, create derivative works from, and display such nominations in whole or in part, on a worldwide basis, and to incorporate it into other works, in any form, media or technology now known or later developed, including for promotional or marketing purposes. If requested, Applicant will sign any documentation that may be required for Sponsor or its designees to make use of the non-exclusive rights entrant is granting to use the application.
MISCELLANEOUS: Released Parties are not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, damaged, inaccurate, stolen, delayed, misdirected, undelivered, or garbled applications or for lost, interrupted or unavailable network, server, Internet Service Provider (ISP), website, or other connections, availability or accessibility or miscommunications or failed computer, satellite, telephone or cable transmissions, lines, or technical failure or jumbled, scrambled, delayed, or misdirected transmissions or computer hardware or software malfunctions, failures or difficulties, or other errors or difficulties of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic, computer, network, typographical, printing or otherwise relating to or in connection with the Program, including, without limitation, errors or difficulties which may occur in connection with the administration of the Program, the processing or judging of applications, the announcement of the prize, the incorrect uploading of the photo or in any Program-related materials. Released Parties are also not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by site users, tampering, hacking, or by any equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Program. Released Parties are not responsible for injury or damage to any person's computer related to or resulting from participating in this Program or downloading materials from or use of the website. Persons who tamper with or abuse any aspect of the Program or website, who act in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner or who are in violation of these Terms and Conditions, as solely determined by Sponsor, will be disqualified and all associated applications will be void. Should any portion of the Program be, in Sponsor’s sole opinion, compromised by virus, worms, bugs, non-authorized human intervention or other causes which, in the sole opinion of the Sponsor, corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play, or Application, Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to suspend, modify or terminate the Program and, if terminated, at its discretion, select the potential Grantee[s] from all eligible, non-suspect applications received prior to action taken using the judging procedure outlined above. Submissions or for any technical problems, malfunctions of computer systems, servers, providers, hardware/software, lost or unavailable network connections or failed, incomplete, garbled, or delayed computer transmission or any combination thereof. Released Parties are not responsible for any unauthorized third-party use of any Submission. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE PROGRAM MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES AND OTHER REMEDIES (INCLUDING ATTORNEYS’ FEES) FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.
ARBITRATION: Except where prohibited by law, as a condition of participating in this Program, Applicant agrees that (1) any and all disputes and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Program, or any grants awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by final and binding arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association and held at the AAA regional office nearest the participant; (2) the Federal Arbitration Act shall govern the interpretation, enforcement and all proceedings at such arbitration; and (3) judgment upon such arbitration award may be entered in any court having jurisdiction. Under no circumstances will Applicant be permitted to obtain awards for, and participant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental or consequential damages, or any other damages, including attorneys' fees, other than Applicant’s actual out-of-pocket expenses (i.e., costs associated with participating in this Program), and Applicant further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.
GENERAL CONDITIONS: By participating, each entrant agrees: (a) to abide by these Terms and Conditions and decisions of Sponsor and judges, which shall be final and binding in all respects relating to this Program; (b) to release, discharge and hold harmless Sponsor, and their respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, and advertising and promotion agencies, and the respective officers, directors, shareholders, employees, agents and representatives of the forgoing (collectively, “Released Parties”) from any and all injuries, liability, losses and damages of any kind to persons, including death, or property resulting, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from entrant’s participation in the Program or any Program-related activity or the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any awarded prize; and (c) to the use of his/her name, voice, performance, photograph/video, image and/or likeness for programming, advertising, publicity and promotional purposes in any and all media, now or hereafter known, worldwide and on the Internet, and in perpetuity by Sponsor and its designees, without compensation (unless prohibited by law) or additional consents from entrant or any third party and without prior notice, approval or inspection, and to execute specific consent to such use if asked to do so. By participating, entrant also agrees not to release any publicity or other materials on their own or through someone else regarding their participation in the Program without the prior consent of the Sponsor, which it may withhold in its sole discretion.
By accepting the Grant attached, Grantees agree to provide photos and a summary of the supported activity and work to Sponsor to promote project publicly within one year of receiving the grant.
PUBLICITY: Grantees agree to the use of her name, photograph, image and/or likeness for programming, advertising, publicity and promotional purposes in any and all media, now or hereafter known, worldwide and on the Internet, and in perpetuity by Sponsor and its affiliates, without compensation (unless prohibited by law) or additional consents from Applicant or any third party and without prior notice, approval or inspection, and to execute specific consent to such use if asked to do so. By participating, Grantees also agrees not to release any publicity or other materials on their own or through someone else regarding their participation in the Program without the prior consent of the Sponsor, which it may withhold in its sole discretion.
USE OF DATA: Sponsor will be collecting personal data about entrants online, in accordance with its privacy policy. By participating in the Application Process, entrants hereby agree to Sponsor’s collection and usage of their personal information and acknowledge that they have read and accepted Sponsor’s privacy policy.
